PICK A THEME,
PICK A PLATFORM,
HACK THE STACK!

Whether you’re inspired by Internet of Things, scientific research challenges, or have a creative idea to bring to market, knowing the latest tech is how you’ll get there.

Join us for Australia’s first OpenStack Application Hackathon Nov 3-5, 2017 at Doltone House in Australia’s Technology park, the weekend prior to the OpenStack Summit Sydney. This 3-day event is organized by the local OpenStack community and welcomes students and professionals to hack the stack using the most popular open infrastructure platforms and application orchestration tools such as OpenShift (Kubernetes and Docker container orchestrator), Cloudify (TOSCA and Docker app orchestrator) and Agave (Science-as-a-Service gateway), in addition to the premier Open Source Infrastructure-as-a-Service: OpenStack!

Teams will be challenged to produce new app prototypes, data visualisations, novel use of existing applications and enthusiastic hacks for how to change academia for the better! In a post-truth era, it is the next generation who must respond – #HackTheStack is a challenge to the next gen.

Hackers are invited to join as an individual or as part of a team. Bring your tent/sleeping bag and camp out to take in the full Hackathon experience!

THE GOAL: CREATE THE BEST OPENSTACK APP IN 40 HOURS

The clock is ticking. One teammate whiteboards while another digs through documentation. The best idea wins, but everyone learns. OpenStack Hackathons bring together hundreds of technologists in a supportive learning environment to practice their skills with the latest cloud tools.

Hackathon teams will pick a theme–Edge computing, Scientific Research, or Market Viability–then pick one of three platforms to use as you build your app. All projects will sit atop OpenStack.

  • Agave, a “science-as-a-service” platform for research and big data
  • Cloudify, an orchestration framework that lets you put your apps on the cloud
  • OpenShift, a container management tool for using Docker containers
